Fun Filled Week

First of all, I must tell you that I have lost the six pounds that I gained on our trip!!  Yep, today when I got on the scales I was 170, which was where I was when we left.  I was so happy that it came off relatively fast.  I am now poised to go into the 160's.  I only have to lose the 10 pounds I gained over the year end holidays last year that I was never able to lose thus far this year.  I really need to get back there so I will be poised to get into the 150's.  I am sure I will feel much better when I do.  It has been quite a few years since I was 150.

What a busy week this far!!  I hardly had a good rest before I had to start my rounds of doctors.  I had to go to my retina specialist Monday morning.  My eyes have been hurting me plus I think my vision is getting worse too, so she did the  heavy duty pictures  and that is not much fun, let me tell you.  She had to inject me with something intravenously and then take the pictures behind my retinas.  It really hurts to look into those bright lights and then afterwards I can't see normally for hours.  Everything is pink and green, other colors too.  She called my optometrist, who is a very close friend of ours, to make an appointment for the next morning to get my eyes tested again.  Instead of asking me the questions, "which is better, this or this," which always confuses me, he had me put my newspaper in front of me to where I do my puzzles each morning.  I do two crosswords, one cryptocrip and one sudoko.  Then he just kept changing the lens until I could read everything clearly.  I really think this time it will work!  My distance glasses were fine and he didn't think I should have to wear glasses all day.  I would hate that as I have never had to do that.   I will see soon, maybe even Monday I'll get my new glasses.

Then Tuesday afternoon I had to get a mammogram, which is always unpleasant.  She did a very comprehensive exam this time and took a bunch of pictures and told me I would have to come back in a few days to have some more pictures taken and possibly have another kind of test, all because I told her my left breast was extra tender and hurt sometimes.  She told me something I found quite interesting.  She said that almost always when one experienced cancer in a breast that it was the left one.  Isn't that something?

I told Dick that today I didn't want to do anything at all today!  I have to say that I haven't done a darned thing either.  I've just rested the whole day and Dick has waited on me hand and foot.  He's fixed all my meals, brought me whatever I needed and just totally let me rest.  I have napped a lot too, so I must have been more worn out than I thought, because I never sleep during the day.  I decided though that I'd better write something on my blog as I did say I was going to do it every Wednesday.  Sue tells me that I should blog only when I feel like it.  I'm afraid that I wouldn't do it at all any more, but I would hate not hearing from some of my favorite people.  I really do feel like I have gotten to know the few people that comment on my blogs.  I have never really wanted more.  I just love the ten or twelve that I do have.

Dick had to go to church to do some kind of report for the stake, so it is very quiet right now.  I guess I won't be posting any pictures, but I don't know what the heck I would post that would be relavent to what I've done this week, so it is probably just as well.

I just want you all to know that I am really doing pretty well and I'm looking forward to another good week.  We are having a church get together at the Pike's this Saturday afternoon.  I have to make a dessert.  I am so glad as we haven't had a church party for so long.  We have a new Bishop and I think we will be having more parties.  I think it is important for people to socialize more.  It's hard to visit with very may people on Sunday's.

Take care, everyone, I hope I will have more to report next week.  Love to all...........

  1. Doctors and their examinations can be chore - I know that very well from my own experience :-) .
Glad all went well! We'll just hope it stays that way.
    Have a nice week!

PS Thank you so much for the very nice comment - it touched me very much.

  3. Good for you Darlene for not giving up on your goal. I'm glad that you lost the six pounds that you put on while away.

Dr's visits and never fun but necessary. I didn't know that breast cancer was mostly always found on the left side. Mine was on the right side. I hope that you are cancer free. It's always scary to think about cancer.

I hope that you will see better with a new prescription glasses. I wear mine all the time but I wish I didn't had to wear glasses. They fog up in the cold.

I hope that you have a good week.
    Hugs, JB

  4. Congrats on losing those pesky pounds! You are my hero! I'm glad you got through all the doc appointments. I have one on Monday and I do hate going. I had my blood work done and I hope all is good. A nice day of super rest is good. Your hubby is a dear to help you all day to make that happen. Enjoy your social. We have a big one next weekend. It's the annual Halloween gathering. We usually do it here but since we're now a Ward with many more people we decided it would be too much for us to do. They rented a place in the country that will be perfect. I'll miss having it here, but I won't miss all the work that goes into it. Have a nice weekend. I wish you could see the fall colors here..it's amazing this year. I think it's one of the prettiest fall's in a long time. Love ya!

  5. P.S..You mentioned that Winnie the boxer was a barker. Eddy the boxer does not bark..hardly at all. He's so quiet unless he's playing. He might growl quietly when someone new pulls in the driveway..but then he's all love and tail wagging.

  6. Well, you're doing better than I am with the pounds - congratulations! There's almost nothing that makes you feel better than losing weight - even a couple of pounds makes me very happy. Glad you were able to get all of your doctor stuff done - my husband is doing that now, trying to figure out why he feels short of breath so often. (We're hoping it's just a little asthma)
You have a wonderful man there, so be good to him! My husband is like that too - always wanting to treat me so nicely! Have a good week, and I hope your glasses turn out well. I love getting new glasses!

  7. So nice to meet you here! I came over after commenting on Sue's posts to see if you were able to get your comment reply box thing worked out :o) It looks like you did.

You are doing awesome with your weight goals! I am trying to get at least 30 to 45 minutes of exercise in 4 to 5 days a week. And you have a sweet hubby! (OH!!! how neat! I scrolled up and see from Sue's comment that you are Sue's mom :o)

    Blessings & Aloha!

  8. Hello Dear Friend
Gosh you really did awesome taking off the extra pounds so fast. I am impressed and happy for you. I too would love to be able to loose weight. At our age that is quite the accomplishment.
You have had a very busy week so I would imagine you were worn out. Love Dick for waiting on you and letting you rest.
When I had breast cancer it was in the left breast and when I found the knot I checked out every book I could find on breast cancer and yes most of the time it is in the left but not always. Glad you are taking the necessary mammogram even though they are unpleasant most of the time. Since I lost my job for breaking my back I have no insurance so I am way behind on my mammograms. Hopefully one day I will get back on track for having insurance and better care.
In answer to your comment about potato soup I will let you know which one I liked better. Everyone is so sweet to give me their recipes.
I do love potato soup and found your comment funny about you being raised in Idaho and not liking potato's. lol
I too have thought of not blogging because I don't have much to write about but I would miss my sweet friends too much to quit all together. I like what you do and blog on a certain day of the week. I should consider that myself.
Hope you enjoy your weekend. I always love coming by here and reading your post. You inspire me to keep my head up and keep going.
    Love ya
    Maggie

  9. Well done on your weight loss! I wondered at first why you were having a rest before going to the doctor, but having read what they put you through I now understand. The test of being able to read the newspaper seems so sensible - I can never answer these 'which is clearer, the red or the green?' questions either.

You are very kind to comment about my photos, Darlene, but I do really just snap away. My camera is an older model Canon Ixus which my dear American step mum in law gave me when she upgraded about 4 years ago. I love it to bits, and bought my daughter the latest model last year but we were both very disappointed by it - it doesn't take nearly such good photos. I don't know what they've improved in it, but it certainly isn't the quality of pictures.

  10. Glad that you are listening to your body when you need to rest Darlene, and you are being well looked after by the sounds of it - by your medical team and Dick.
I hope the medical aspects get cleared up for you, and make the most of being waited on - it sounds like that social life of yours is getting busy again! Have a lovely weekend.

  11. I've never heard of that eye test having to be injected with stuff but it sounds awful! Were they checking for cataracts? I just learned at my eye exam this month that everyone has cataracts to some degree. I think he meant everyone over 40 or 50. I didn't realize that.

I'm glad you took advantage of letting your sweet husband take care of you and even make the meals at least for that one day.

I never heard that about the left breast either having lots more cancer than the right one. I hope all those extra mamo pictures turned out okay.

  12. First of all I am so happy that your weight is good. I myself have lost about 10 lbs over the last few months. I am now about 155 and I would like to get in the 140's. We can kind of follow each other on this one.
I just went to get my eye's tested and I am glad I didn't have to have what you did. I am happy that your eyes are doing OK. Now for the mammogram. I had soreness in my left breast and had to have a mammogram and an ultrasound just a couple of months ago. We seem to be doing some of the same things.
I am recovering well from my knee surgery. I should find out tomorrow if I can be up more. I am tired of having my leg elevated and ice to the knee. My dear husband like yours has been doing everything for me. What would we do without these good men in our lives.
I am glad you are doing well.
Blessings and hugs to your dear friend.
