A Great Month

Can you believe that it has been ten days less than a month since I posted?  This has been a crazy, but fun month, just filled with activities.  As you know, I am more or less using this blog as a means of a journal for me and my posterity.  I need to get what I have publised into a book so it will be easier to read and a better way to have it all stored.  I started a written history of my life some time ago and was able to get as far as 1987 before I truly got writers block.  I think I just couldn't think of anything interesting that happened to me after that date.  I know that somehow I need to finish that and link up to the beginning of this blog......then I will truly have a good history.  I just hope that you guys who read this, all twelve of you, won't get too bored.  Reading someone else's history is not that interesting.  I know because I am having a hard time reading very far in Laura Bush's  autobiography that Sue gave me for Christmas.  I really admire that woman, which is probably why Sue gave me the book and I will read it, but I can only take it a little at a time.

I love to have company so I was very thrilled when Nancy Lee, my niece, who lives in a suburb near Dallas, told me she was flying out again to visit me and to go to the "Reunion" Concert.  She stayed for six days and we had a wonderful busy time.  There are always so many people she wants to see before she goes back, so we did go to Fallbrook to see my nephew, Freddy.  The two of them are, very close, because they were raised together for quite a few years.

The "Reunion" concert was amazing.  We were so happy we got to hear them in person as they don't perform in this area that much.  We also went out to dinner with the Pikes as Nancy really wanted to take them out to a nice place.  We ended up going to the number one rated steak house, Sullivan's, for a wonderful dinner, but I ended up ordering soup because I had a tooth ache.  I do have an appointment with the dentist this next Wednesday and I just hope I don't have to have it out.  It isn't bothering me too much right now.

Before Nancy left, we started looking for cars.  Yes, Dick has been talking about getting a new one before our old Bishop left town.  He is the one who works for Garff Motors, which is centered in Salt Lake.  He got a promotion to go there and work in the business office there.  He was the district manager here, and had to supervise seven automobile agencies here in the Southland.  They were pretty well scattered, some in our County (Riverside), some in Orange County and one in Los Angeles County.  I don't even know how he could do so much traveling and yet be a wonderful Bishop.  I guess his wife could tell us..........he was never at home much.  They left last Wednesday after their escrow closed and they had to be out of their house.  We got one just in time because we bought it last Monday.  We were going to buy a new one, but ended up buying a 2011 Cadillac SRX.  Yes, we are back to driving Cadillac's again.  We absolutely love this car and it only has 40,000 miles on it.  I'll try to get Dick to post a picture of it.  He took it just before dark, so hope it turns out well here.

Other that going to various Doctors and labs, that is about all the excitement  for this time.  I may not post for another month.  Who knows?  I don't expect much to happen in the next few weeks.  We are definitely going to slow down somewhat and rest up a bit.  Today is the first time we haven't had anything to do for a long time.  My very best to you all..............

  1. I like the pictures of your new car. I do hope you got a good deal. You do have such a active and fun life. I am very thrilled that you are able to do more things. I do hope you don't overdue.
Your niece, Nancy sounds like such an awesome woman. I have an aunt that I have been watching over her for a long time. She recently ended up in the hospital. She had an Infection that decreased her appetite and she ended up not drinking enough and so she had to go into the hospital. Now she is at a rehab center getting Physical therapy to get her walking with a walker again. She is such a joy to my heart. Perhaps I will tell her story on my blog one of these days.
I am most happy that you are feeling good enough to get out and about more. You always amaze me with all of the things that you accomplish and do. I enjoyed reading your post and I always like to hear from you. In fact I was thinking about you today and wondering if I should ask Sue how you were doing
Blessings, hugs and love to you!

  2. I'm glad you were busy with family and visits. That is always a good time! Love that! it's snazzy! I knew you'd have fun with the reunion concert but I'm sorry you had to skip a great steak dinner. Hope that tooth feels better soon. Have a great weekend and keep on enjoying life!

  3. It's great to hear how busy you've been. I love spending time with loved ones. And your car.....NICE!!!!

  4. What a nice car you got! Cadillacs are the smoothest rides. My parents each have one, and I enjoy driving them when I take my dad out to work in Corona each week. Sounds like you've been having some fun with family and friends - life is good!

  5. What a beautiful car and I bet that you and Dick just love to get in for a drive. Cadillac cars styles sure have changed over the years. I remember my father in law driving a long and wide Cadillac and when he could no longer see well enough to drive I was his designated driver. It was hellish to park on the street.

I'm glad that you had a busy fun time with the Reunion concert and visit from your niece.
It keeps you busy enough that you won't get bored. Having a tooth ache is not fun. I hope that you will feel better after the dentist visit.

I've been so busy holding the new baby and playing with James that he rarely is left in his little bed so my blogging time suffers a bit. I'm running behind but I try to make my round whenever I can.

As far as my job on the farm, my son is doing his job plus mine and he said that although he doesn't give hugs to my calves like I do, he takes care of them. I guess they will have to wait for their hugs, ha ha ha.

I'm off to get breakfast now. I hope that you have a great week. No need to apologize for not blogging but we love to know how you are doing.
    Take care dear friend.

  6. Congratulations with the new car! We don't see many Cadillacs around here, so this was a nice treat. It is interesting that you intend to use your blog as a journal. It ought to do fine. I started this blog in 2006, and last year I exported the three first years into two books (using Blurb who has a special option for this). I have mostly photos, so I had to do a bit of editing, but since you have mostly text it ought to be fairly easy. The result was great. Some day I will do the rest :-)

Thank you for the nice comment and take good care of yourself!

  7. I don't suppose there is any chance Reunion will perform more in central Ca, right? How wonderful that you got to hear their concert. Your new car is the color, same color as ours. I wonder what your dentist will say about your tooth.....
I always find interesting whatever is going on in your life.

  8. Dear Sweet Darlene
As you know I love love it when you write and tell us what you have been up too. I too am posting very little these days. When I started my blog it was because I wanted it to be a journal for me. Never thought anyone would find it and read it. lol... Now I keep writing because I would miss my lovely friends like you if I did not blog every now and then.
Yes I am moving if everything goes as they are planning for me. It should be the last of May. For the first few months I will be living in both places until I decide if I can handle the life of being with my boss living right next door to me. lol
Oh how I love your Cadillac. If I had the money I would buy exactly what you have bought. I love this car and it rides wonderfully. Good for you!
So happy you went to another concert of Reunion. I truly would love to attend one.
Sorry about your tooth ache. I put those right on top of the worst pain there is to for anyone to handle. I hate you could not eat anything but soup and the steakhouse.
Thank you for taking the time to come by and check on me.
When I was trying to make my decision about moving I thought of you and said to myself, "I know Darlent would want you to do this!" I appreciate you always thinking of me and wanting a better life for me.
Keep well and as always I love reading about you.
    Love ya

  9. Your car is SO cute Mom. And yes, I was talking about grandma Johnson in my post.

  10. Hi Darlene. I always enjoy your comments on my blog.
I had a good time reading here what you have been up to, and it's exciting about your car. It looks beautiful.
We don't see a lot of Cadillacs in Australia, as we have a big car manufacturing industry ourselves, particularly at a place called Elizabeth, here in South Australia. The city was named after Her Majesty the Queen, but I think she would be unimpressed by the industrial harshness of some of the areas of Elizabeth, particularly the social problems.
From the Elizabeth manufacturing plant, the cars are exported all over the world, and there is always a marketing push for Australians to buy locally.
I would love to ride in a Cadillac - I hear they are very smooth and comfortable.
I hope you and Dick are keeping well. David and I still have a few challenges ahead of us. I so much appreciate your support.

  11. I'm glad you posted a picture of your car, as I don't have a clue what a Cadillac looks like. As with Rune and Pam, we don't really see Cadillacs in Scotland. Our cars tend to be a lot smaller, tho 4x4s (SUVs) are becoming more popular. They come in for a bit of ridicule tho because they are meant for rough terrain and are 99% driven in cities, and are called 'gas guzzlers' - although our term for gas is 'petrol'.
