I did make it to my great grandaughter, Charlotte's first birthday and it was a great success. I was so glad that I was well enough to go. I was quite excited to be able to show you some pictures of the event, but after telling my daughter of my plans, she told me not to show any pictures of Charlotte. She said both her parents did not want any pictures of her to be shown ANYWHERE on the internet. She was very adamant about the fact that I should not do this. I told her that she should have told me before this because I had already posted a couple of her last week. Not that you could see anything of her face in the one where I was rocking her but you can certainly see her face on the other one. I suppose I should take it off.

I also have to report that things were not quite so good with me. I had a really bad fall!!! Yes, idiot that I am, I failed to notice when we went in that Sheena's mother (whose house the party was held) has a raised entry way. It is all tile, as is the room I literally fell into. I saw Charlotte in the most beautiful ruffly dress and her mom waved to me from the family room and I went right to her, without even noicing the step down and of course went right down, falling on my left outer thigh and rear end. It really did twist my body and everyone was asking me if I was okay and all I could answer is "I don't know." My grandson, Charlotte's dad is a paramedic and he came from the kitchen to see himself what happened. I told him that I didn't think anything was broken but I was pretty shook up. He told me that if anything was broken, I would really know it. He put his arms under mine from from my back and lifted all 168 pounds of me as if I were a feather. Guess I was lucky to have some proffessional help. He tells me that a lot of his calls are from older people that have fallen. I managed to make it through the rest of the party, but was awfully glad to get home. I really didn't sleep though until after 4:00a.m. and then only fitfully. It was dejavu (sp?) all over again. My Dallas fall wasn't that long ago, then Dick's fall and now mine again. Sue tells me that we both need to start being very aware of our surroundings, and of course she is right.

Dick is taking very good care of me, bringing me frozen gell packs which help somewhat with my comfort. I must say though, that I am not the least bit comfortable right now so am headed back to my comfortable chair in the living room. Will be back next Tuesday night, hopefully in much better condition. Love to all............

  1. I am really happy that you could go to the Birthday party; but very sad that you fell. Of my gosh, you have had way too many mishaps and health struggles. Do take care of yourself and I will be sending prayers for you.

  2. Oh Darlene - I do the same kinds of things, and one of these days I'm really going to hurt myself! I hope you're doing better and are on the mend. Bruises are NOT fun, and hopefully you didn't sprain anything. Sue is right - do be careful. I need to stop moving before I think too. We'll be careful together. But I'm glad you got to go and see the little one.

  3. Sorry you didn't get to post pics of Charlotte, but I'm not surprised to hear that they are protective in that way.

I am really sorry you had to take that fall, and I hope there are no more repeats!

    Love you.
    =)

  5. My heart skipped a beat when you said you fell...whew, I'm so glad you didn't break any bones when you hit that tile floor. You much have strong bones! One time when I was visiting my brother I came in from outside through what I thought was an open sliding door...it had a screen on it that I walked right through! Boy, did I feel dumb, not to mention I broke the screen....not one of my more graceful entrances! I hope you feel better soon. Bless Dick for taking such good care of you! I hope all his bruises are gone too..

  7. Oh no! How frustrating, and painful for you. So glad you didn't break anything! How scary. I can imagine all the things you were instantly thinking as you went down.

That's too bad we don't get to see any pictures of Charlotte, but I understand. Many parents feel just the way your granddaughter does about the internet.

I really hope you are on the mend. You and your husband have been through so much lately.

  8. Hi Darlene, thanks for your comment on my poor neglected blog. It's true that I keep busy but it's no mystery how I can do it all. I leave things go when I have to. I do what I can and leave the rest.

I like to be organized and I can work better that way. I can work well under pressure and I have lots of patience. Right now I spend as much time as I can quilting on my King size quilt. I still have a fair amount to do before I'm finished, then I'll work on my Childhood Memories rug that I started in 2011.

In the mean time if you get bored you can go in my older post and read more about my everyday life. I started blogging August 2, 2010

I hope that you don't do too much and take time to heal. Hugs, JB

  10. I'm always falling, and should also pay more attention to my surroundings. Am glad you are well and made it to the party. I have to add, my parents came for a visit (they live in Dar, so not a far trip to make) and Ethan insisted we make them Swedish pancakes for breakfast!

  11. Dick and you are trading off on the nursing situation. I haven't fallen in quite awhile, but every time I see my neurologist he asks me, in a stern voice, if I have started using my walker all the time. (

  12. Falls are scary and more so the older one gets! I fell the other day letting our little dog out in the snow and ice. I'm so glad you are alright and that your great hubby is there with the gel packs!! Hope you don't need them any more!!

  13. Darlene, thanks for your lovely comment on my blog.

I really have no secrets about keeping poinsettias year round. I just leave them on the ceramic tile floor of my sunroom throughout the year and give them the same treatments as my other plants.

A weak fertilizer watering when they start to look dry on top. I use them in other parts of the house while they are still colorful.

I think that the cool floor is good for them. I don't keep my house too hot or I wilt. ha ha ha.

I discovered a while back that the water from our water softener wasn't good for my coleus so I got my husband to install a by-pass valve on our water pump so it uses the water that comes directly from our deep well and bypass the water softener. I keep some water in a pail to come to room temperature before I water my plants.

Even if they loose all their leaves, as long as the roots don't suffer, they will green up again if watered and kept from drying . I know that they don't like sudden temperature changes as when they are put in a cold car to take home if it's really cold out there.

I hope that it doesn't sounds too complicated. I used to water my plants with rain water and even melted snow years ago before the by-pass valve. Hugs. JB

    1. Oh Darlene, you rascal falling again! I'm glad to hear that you're not too much the worse. Single internal steps are dangerous, to my mind.
